Blackwood Griffins are looking to further their development as a second XV with a new backs coach.

The Griffins are a second team for Blackwood RFC and play in the Dragons athletics League of which they are entering their second season.

The Griffins made the league final last season narrowly losing out on winning it in the last minutes.

The Griffins were also one of the only teams last season to fulfil all their league games with a true second team.

The team consists of a majority younger player base with many of the current Griffins player being Blackwood RFC youth graduates.

There are also plenty of older more experienced players which makes the Griffins a really exciting prospect for a coach.

The club are looking for a backs coach/ player coach who is enthusiastic about the development of players and providing players a path into the first XV.

One player you will be working closely with is centre and newly appointed captain Lewis Cardwell.

Lewis had some words to potential coaches on what to expect from the Griffins backline.

“Expect a lot of enthusiasm from the back line. They're a fairly young team with a few experienced players dotted within the line up.

They'd be looking for someone to match their level of commitment and love for the game as well as someone who is extremely approachable and willing to spend time to help them learn.” He said

Lewis played for the Griffins last season and was made captain this season and he gave his expectations for a potential future coach to live up to.

“Personally, l'd like to see someone who is willing to come into the team and share their experience and knowledge. Alongside this, the griffins would really benefit from someone who is willing to try new things, and people in new positions to maximise the effectiveness that the back line will have going into the new season.

And yes, it's 90% about what happens on the pitch, but l'd love to see someone take on and adapt the social element that the team has to offer.” He said.
