Newport Pill Harriers V Blackwood 28/9/19

Back to league action this Saturday after our Plate victory over Monmouth last week and it seen us travel to Newport to take on the Newport Pill Harriers. Many thought the game would be in doubt, but it went ahead in remarkably good conditions given the adverse weather we had, and a plus, it didn’t rain much while we were there. In front of the usual travelling support the Wood ran out comfortable winners, 53 - 19, scoring seven tries, converting six, and slotting over two penalties. The game however was not a one sided as the score suggests, Pill scored three tries and were always in the game up until the last quarter when we ran in some lovely well worked tries. A good squad effort, but the Worthington Man of The Match Award went to Jonathan Verrier, well deserved! In the three league games played to to-date this is the second game we have scored fifty plus points, in the process notching up fifteen tries in total. The point scorers today were a try apiece for Laurence Pritchard, Gary Wilkes, Josh Law, Tom Moss, and Scott Turner, Mathew Minty ran in two. Scott Turner also converted six and added a further two penalties. Home this coming Saturday to Cwmbran who currently lie below us in the league, having beaten Hartridge, but losing to Talywain & Ynysddu
