The weather played its part this weekend with only two league games surviving in our league, but congratulations to Peter & Jason, their hard work over the summer and management of the field meant our game was on! We knew this was to be a tough one and it was our first ever meeting with Caerleon at Glan yr Afon, and with both sides scoring twenty-nine tries apiece in this season so far, tries were expected today, and that’s what we got in a very competitive physical game. Although Blackwood ran out winners 38-18 securing those valuable bonus points, the match didn’t look it was heading that way. The first half finished 14 – 11 in the Woods favour, two converted tries to Caerleon’s one and two well taken penalties, the first half was close, but the wood took their chances and scored two well worked tries. The second half Caerleon came out all guns blazing, but excellent defensive work kept them out, Blackwood then put in a well worked move which resulted in the line being crossed for the third try. Fair play to Caerleon they kept on coming back, but the Blackwood forwards stepped up their game and to be fair took control. With the flood lights now on and the game nearing the end Blackwood scored three tries, two in the last five minutes. Caerleon still didn’t give up and scored the last try of the game. The final score 38 – 18. Well done to Ryan Williams, a hat trick of tries and to Harris Jones who was the Worthington Man of the Match.
Try Scorers: Ryan Williams 3, Gary Wilkes, Nicky Tucker, Dan Tucker. Conversions: Scott Turner 4.
